I've always worked, paid 40 years of taxes. Worked awful, soul & body destroying jobs - wishing I'd die in my sleep rather than go through another day of being verbally abused for 8 hours whilst having to speak politely to assholes in call centres & having toilet breaks timed to the second; breaking my back lifting furniture down stairs, loading pallets with heavy slabs of beer and bottles of pop while trying to walk on the edges of my feet because I've damaged my achilles tendons so that it feels like I've knives in my heels. Driving a van with more drops than can be done in 8 hours when that's all you are paid for and holding your bladder all day. I've done all the shit jobs there are and it's taken a toll on me. In my latest job I've effectively been replaced by Nigerians who are open about the fact that they're just here to get what they can with as little input from them as possible, sleeping on the job, skiving, stealing and laughing that if they get caught they'll "play the race card" and managers won't do a thing.
I've had 20 year old girls take great pleasure "bullying" me because I'm an old, white, straight man so I deserve it and if I so much as raise my voice they can have me sacked as they might be "scared" as suddenly vulnerable "female staff".
I had a stroke and can't walk without a stick or use my left arm much now, I can't work and it sickens me to see the right wing media starting the story of "scroungers" getting bmws on pip etc to build up condemnation of people on benefit. They don't tell you that loads of benefits that could be claimed are not and that some religious groups forbid their women to work; one thing I noticed when navigating the benefit system (which isn't as easy as people say) is that every department offers translation services and panders to people who aren't British.
The social contract is broken, the government are now turning on the elderly and sick, pushing the retirement age up yet have money for foreign wars and the eye-watering costs of keeping all the 3rd world chancers who can get here in hotels with phones, pocket money and all that.
I know a young guy who's never worked and is gaming the system as he knows he'll never be able to afford a car, a home or much of anything - I don't blame him.
Anyway, I'm not a good writer or trying to make a big point, I'm just telling anyone that wants to read my story.
Thanks my friend, I was going to delete it when I read it as it sounds like I'm moaning but, funnily enough, just what you said I like reading about people's lives so ... well that's my Ballad of Terry Bell. That's my story and why I feel the way I do about the young lads coming up in this new world. I'm not clever like you but I suppose I'm saying "why should our people knacker themselves to pay for their replacement?" - it's like the recent discussion of would young men go to war for this country? No, no, they wouldn't and I don't blame them.
I just reread your story about gannin on your bike and "jennifer" - it made me happy. Made me smile. I think you could be a tyneside Irving Welsh if you wanted you know.
When Thatcher decided to destroy the unions by destroying the mines, steelworks and shipyards in the North East she unwittingly destroyed the protestant work ethic.
That essay really does sum it all up, Morgoth. As the general work ethic decays, as our trust levels plunge to Third World levels, as the Great Replacement continues, as our productive economic base shrivels further, as public finances hurtle ever closer to bankruptcy, it is very, very difficult to see a way out. The political class are either too stupid, or lack the bottle, or both, to even begin to tackle it.
And they don't even understand what it is they've destroyed, they seem to assume none of it makes any difference and an Anglo-Protestant work ethic can exist without Anglo-Protestants.
The elites forgot what they did, Morgoth, to paraphrase the title of one of your pieces from early in the CV19 insanity (the one with the thumbnail of the friendly looking milkman from times gone by). As evil and malicious as our rulers undoubtedly are, they also exhibit a staggering level of ignorance and childlike naivety.
Like so much of progressivism, it lives off the fumes of societal norms that have existed for thousands, if not tens of thousands of years. Kick away those remaining supports, as it is doing, and pure chaos ensues. It will consume them too.
This all rings true to my experience as an unemployment benefit case manager. It was a soul crushing role, and I only lasted a year. The worst part was interviewing parents who were “separating” from their partner - with the children of that relationship - present at the interview. The separation was sometimes real and starkly done for economic considerations by the female partner, and some times was clearly manufactured (jointly by the partners) to garner more funds from the more sought after (I.e higher paid) solo parent benefit. The unintended consequence of this action I think was highly corrosive to these families, and the lessons being imprinted in these children from the mercenary behaviour and/or lies being told could only be awful and unsettling.
I remain supportive of “any job is better than no job” ethos, but my experience also focused my view that if wealthy families and businesses can show zero income and use that as a safe harbour for wealth creation, than high tariffs and restrictive immigration should also be available as the fortress walls for protecting wage and salary workers.
In 2003, no such directions were given to me but the public service was at the time a stickler for serving all “qualifying citizens” by the book. That professionalism is now long gone. Also I was in a dying town in a rural province with few minorities in the local population. The very small number of ethic minorities (pacific islanders, refugee Kurds)who did apply were often gob smacked that “free money” for not working was available. They didn’t have any qualms about “signing on”, I think they saw the government as just naive suckers, as did a sizeable bloc of the local criminal class who were also heavily represented on our rolls.
Now aged 70, I of course grew up in a high-trust society and shame culture where not working was considered low status; a waster, a good-for-nothing if not an outright wrong-un. To this day I feel guilt at being retired and not working (mostly) while at the same time thinking that government money is better off in my pocket than in any New Briton’s. Besides which my accountant tells me I’ll be age 130 before I become a net-beneficiary.
My first proper job was as a hod-carrier. I remember being so proud walking on to the site fitted out in new steel-toe capped boots and a donkey jacket. Zero health and safety and a brutal barrage of piss-taking awaiting me daily. You were expected to be a man; and a hard working one at that. A valuable rite of passage denied to young men today.
Blokes with spirit levels were a whole class above. To be aspired to.
And when the money runs out, and the welfare system collapses--taking society with it--the UK will find itself with millions of low IQ, unskilled, 3rd world migrants from violent alien cultures wandering the streets.
And it will brutal beyond all belief.
Six decades (or more) of misguided liberalism will have reached fruition.
I don't see a protracted period of misery. I see an explosion of brutality, desperation, and despair that will burn out quickly. I have faith in my kin that they will overcome and restore the country.
The real reckoning will be what to do with the traitors who brought all of this about.
I understand there is already an outflow of millionaires from the “Yoo Kay”. When that outflow is also joined by the more entrepreneurial/mobile element of the new arrivals (eg Indians returning home or those with the skills to seek out new bolt holes) as well, then the UK populace will know those who remain will be the “dead enders”. I expect the intransigent dead end faction will become increasingly shrill about any “ism” they can claim as a form of supposed suffering, while simultaneously trying to lever their ethnic factionalism into real political power.
You're correct, the 'Yoo Kay' is losing many of its best and brightest. However, the dead-enders ambitions will hit a brick wall--other dead-enders competing for the crumbs left over. Everyone knows the Indians hate the Africans and the Africans hate the the Arabs... The POCs openly hate each other and most of these people have very low levels of agency. This has been exploding into open warfare for decades. There have been riots between blacks and Pakistanis and Hindus and Muslims happening for decades. These riots are becoming the norm.
The standard of living in the UK is already on par with Moldova, and sinking fast. The reality is that the UK is bankrupt and the very people needed to revive the the UK are fleeing the country and being replaced by alien parasites. It's the same story across the West.
Third world migrants are not going to revitalize anything. They just want to take advantage of Western decency--a common decency that these people lack. We have been robbed of safe streets, good schools, high standards in education, and earning a living wage by a bunch of low IQ migrants that can't think beyond the next five minutes.
Sometimes I hope I can see the Muslims or whoever taking power by themselves because I’d love to see the faces of the smarmy Labour feminists being ruled by them.
One aspect not mentioned by many is the fact it is impractical to leave school at 16, get a full time job and be left alone, because the state insists on you being in part time training or education. Many young men, who are not academically minded, just want to escape the drudgery of school, get out there and earn a few quid, giving them independence, autonomy and self respect. This liberty has been removed from them and I believe it has been quietly devastating.
The above dictum is apt for a people living in a New World where survival required work.
It still applies for the Charles "Chad" Ingles as he builds his house, farms his land, and raises his family in The Little House on the Prairie.
In both cases there is a direct link between personal hard work and personal betterment, with a communal benefit emerging naturally. The local town hardware store owner or blacksmith is providing a directly useful service for the farmers that would be impossible were they required to farm land to eat. Hard to describe such businesses as parasitic "middlemen" enterprises.
The later emergence of the "middleman" taking their cut as the fruits of their "work" changes everything.
Is working a 40 hour plus job and being almost broke at the end of the month due to "middlemen" taking their cut truly noble? Or is it instead truly stupid?
It seems to me that the above (which is the financial experience of most working people now) is a case of being "Those that will not work for those that (take a cut from the middle to eat well) will not eat".
I find it hard to swallow such lectures from the likes of a Richard Tice given his "work" is managing the rental income generated by the property development company his grandfather created.
This is part of a larger crisis afflicting the West, in which the costs of greed, ideological vanity projects, and subversion get dumped onto the working taxpayer, who increasingly wonders why he should pay into a system that offers him little more than exploitation.
In game theory terms, the Regime is telling us to cooperate while they defect, which is for suckers, and there's nothing honorable about being a sucker. Of course, they appeal to the values of a high trust society in which both parties cooperate, and defection is stigmatized, but this is increasingly wearing thin, as more of us realize that the correct play against a defector is to defect in return.
Still boggles my mind that you were never recruited into Higher Education Teaching or Academia. You would have made an excellent Lecturer..I can imagine a lot of younger people (particularly men) would have responded well to you
Thank you for this excellent piece. "The Road to Wigan Pier" came to my mind after reading it. Mr. Morgoth, have you read that book and if you have, what do you think of it?
I grew up in a very deprived area and the shift in attitudes you describe matches what I’ve observed too from those I know who still live there. People not only talk openly about trying to squeeze everything they can get out of the system now, but also feel a sense of the government owing them when they see things like council houses they should be in occupied by new arrivals from the other side of the world while they live in spare rooms.
You mention UBI at the end and I think where we are now has been a deliberate ploy to condition the population to accept that when it gets rolled out, probably in the not too distant future. I can totally understand people wanting to milk the system, but they are being conditioned to accept what on the surface seems like endless free money, but money that they will eventually have to exchange their freedom for.
As someone fortunate enough to not be on benefits, but unfortunate enough to be footing the bill for those that are, it’s a no win situation that just adds to the overall shitness of modern day Britain. I think parallel societies and alternative ways of life will eventually be the only route out for those who don’t want either option in the coming years.
I think the reason for Thatchers attack on the unions was a deliberate attempt to destroy a rival castle and ultimately reduce ordinary working class people to isolated individuals dependent on the state.
If you look at the way the miners or for example the printers unions (wapping) were able to mobilise large numbers of tough men against the state you can see why they had to be crushed. The mostly female multi cultural public service unions we have now are no real threat to power. In fact in many cases their clients of power.
One slight correction Ali G isn't meant to be a Muslim immigrant he's meant to be a white wigger called Alistair. Sacha Baron Cohen is always going to attack whitey.
thats a great picture of the workers at Swan Hunter
cant make out if theres one female bottom left or its just a long haired lad ha ha!
never got to see Sting's musical based on the shipyards, can it have been so bad?
I went into a dole office around Cowgate once thinking I might sign on, but the urine stench drove me out again as fast as my legs could carry me, and I copped myself on
My wife has some multicultural friends in London and they were telling her how Muslims at the council hand over council flats to their own and how, if you’re white, you can forget about getting any. Also, she told me there are ethnic rackets to not pay gas and electricity so if you’re part of the ethnic club, the British Gas or power engineer will look the other way when the hypothetical ethnic user tampers with the meter (for a cash fee of course).
The amount of corruption in the social welfare state of this country is hard to imagine. But at this point of the game, I do not care. This car must crash, is crashing and we must grab as much as we can while it does.
With the rise in individualism and destruction of community, we've lost that safety net that community could and did provide in the past. No local aristocracy who could assist those in need if they wished. Of course that system was flawed, but I have wondered many times if what we have now is any better. I also wonder if about the incentives our current system puts on people's behaviour. Why bother to maintain relationships with family and friends when the state will bail you out? Would there be less anti-social behaviour if angering the local community had serious consequences? But again, what community these days? And finally what happens when the system falls apart because the money's run out?
I've always worked, paid 40 years of taxes. Great post. I find it refreshing to read stories like this in these spaces because there's a tendency toward abstract intellectualism.
Thanks my friend, I was going to delete it when I read it as it sounds like I'm moaning but, funnily enough, just what you said I like reading about people's lives so ... well that's my Ballad of Terry Bell. When Thatcher decided to destroy the unions by destroying the mines, steelworks and shipyards in the North East she unwittingly destroyed the protestant work ethic.
Yes, it was being cannibalized.
That essay really does sum it all up, Morgoth. I feel as if I have to ask, were you instructed to treat minorities differently when in that position?
In 2003, no such directions were given to me but the public service was at the time a stickler for serving all “qualifying citizens” by the book. That professionalism is now long gone. Thank you for that insight from the front lines, so to speak. My ex girlfriend was a job coach, and related many similar tales.
Absolutely brilliant, Morgoth. Thank you.

I’ll happily buy you one old friend. What size?

Yeah, further north we'd hear stories about how they had wire mesh to protect the dole minions closer to the town.
My wife has some multicultural friends in London and they were telling her how Muslims at the council hand over council flats to their own and how, if you’re white, you can forget about getting any.
